The Optomap® Ultra-Wide Field Retinal Imaging device offers the latest in diagnostic eye health technology, allowing doctors to visualize one of the most important structures of the eye.
The retina is a paper-thin tissue located inside your eye that contains the cells responsible for capturing light and transforming it into nerve impulses that are then sent to the brain. Damage to the retina can occur due to trauma or disease and can lead to blindness.
The Optomap® uses a sophisticated system of lasers and mirrors to scan the retina and create a digital image of this critical tissue. Optomap® images aid in the diagnosis of most retinal diseases and can often allow us to make a diagnosis sooner than would otherwise be possible through traditional dilated eye exams. Many times, it even allows doctors to evaluate the health of your retina without the need for dilating eye drops!
Doctor McAllister recommend Optomap® Digital Retinal Images for patients of all ages at least once per year. The test is completely painless and the instrument is able to capture an image in less than ½ a second!
